1821. Ferona Nichols born, her parents were Gershom Nichols and Phebe Dean of Scipioville NY Cayuga County.

1830. Census of Ledyard (formerly Scipio) Twn/Twp Cayuga County New York, indicated Russell living with his parents.

1840. Census of Ledyard Twn/Twp Cayuga County New York, indicated Russell living with his parents.

1841. Russell Sherman was married to Ferona Nichols from Scipioville NY. They lived with his mother Hannah on the homestead farm.

1850. Census of Ledyard Twn/Twp Cayuga County New York, indicated Russell Sherman age 21 farmer, Ferona Sherman age 29, four children under age 10, Hannah Sherman age 68, mother.

1853. Russell Sherman owns farm identified as lot #56.

1855. New York State Census indicated Hannah Sherman (mother) did not live with her son Russell.

1859/60. Russell's mother Hannah died, burial location unknown. Russell was to get ½ of the farm after his mothers death according to his father Elihu Jr's

1860. Census of Ledyard Twn/Twp Cayuga County New York, indicated Russell Sherman age 45 farmer, Ferona Sherman age 38, nine children under age 18, value of property 1,800, all born in New York.

1863. Russell bought his brother Howland's half of the farm.

1873. Russell died from pneumonia, and is buried next to his son Charles G Sherman in the Howland Cemetery Ledyard Twp Cayuga County, at dog Corners, three miles East from aurora New York.

1908. Ferona Sherman died, buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Scipioville NY.

Twelve children of Russell and Ferona Sherman
1. Phebe Ann Sherman (14), born 5 February 1843 in Moonshine NY Cayuga County, married in 1865 to John C Jones, a Civil War Veteran, who was born April 1844. John was a stone-mason and plasterer. John died 27 October 1910 and Phebe died 19 June 1913, buried in King Ferry Cemetery in King Ferry NY. Two children.
          1. Nellie Jones (15), born 29 August 1867, married 14 February 1886 to Gordon Montgomery, who was a native of Prince Edward Island Nova Scotia. They spent their later years at Daytona Beach Florida. Nellie died 14 November 1942 and is buried in King Ferry Cemetery in King Ferry NY. Gordon died 23 December 1949 and is buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Daytona Beach FL. No children.
          2. Fay Sherman Jones (14), born 1874/5, reportedly married. He was deceased by 1955, and left a daughter in Sacramento CA.
      2. Charlotte M Sherman (14), born 28 Mar 1844 in Moonshine NY Cayuga County. Married 1883 to Edward Aikin, a farmer in Ledyard NY and a widower with one son. Edward died 11 April 1884 in Popular Ridge NY at age 35, buried by his first wife in the Aikin-Gould Family Cemetery in Scipio NY. Charlotte died 31 October 1912, and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, ½ mile West of Scipioville NY. No children.
      3. Mary Elizabeth Sherman (14), born 14 August 1846 in Moonshine NY Cayuga County. Married in 1870 to George W Fowler of Scipio Twp. He was a Civil War Veteran. They lived in Auburn NY and then Rochester NY. Both died in Rochester NY, George in 1916 and Mary on 13 September 1919, and buried in Mount Hope Cemetery in Rochester NY. Two children.
          1. Edwin Sherman Fowler (15), born 22 December 1872. Edwin married four times. He died 15 August 1955, and buried in Mount Hope Cemetery in Rochester NY. No children.
          2. Grace Fowler (15), born 1878, married November 1900 to Frank Ashton of Rochester NY, one child.
      4. Elighew Sherman (14), born 4 May 1848 in Moonshine NY, died soon after.
      5. Hannah Jane Sherman (14), born 10 January 1849 in Moonshine NY Cayuga County. Married 1867 to Hiram McIlroy, he was a blacksith and wagon maker of Popular Ridge NY. He bore a high repuataion as a machinist, and many served apprenticeship under him. Hiram died 22 Jun 1912 and Hannah died 9 September 1925 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Scipioville NY. One child.
          1. Mary F McIlroy (15), born 11 October 1869, married 13 November 1889 to Merton Merritt, a farmer in Popular Ridge NY. Merton died 1944, buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Scipioville NY. After 1955 Mary died at the Hillside Nursing Home in Auburn NY, buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Scipioville NY. One child.

6. William G Sherman (14), born 1851 died 1939.
      7. Frances Elnora Sherman (14), born 11 July 1853 in Moonshine NY, did not marry, stayed with her mother and did domestic work outside the home. She died 15 January 1903, buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Scipioville NY.

 
8. Elihu Russel Sherman (14), born 1855 died 1937.
      9. Charles G Sherman (14), born 12 October 1857 in Moonshine NY, and died 27 June 1864 at the age of 7 years. Buried in Howland Cemetery without a marker.
      10. Isaac Sherman (14), born 18 November 1859 in Moonshine NY, 1860 Isaac age 2 lived with his parents (Census). Married in 1888 Nellie May DeLapp, born in 1863. Nellie was a school teacher when she married. Isaac was a farmer, and they bought a farm 2 ½ miles South of Aurora NY. Later they bought a house in Popular Ridge and moved there, and he was a caretaker. Nellie died 15 July 1915 in Popular Ridge. Isaac sold the home and worked at farm work for others. Later he lived on a farm near Auburn NY, Isaac died 1 January 1939. One child.
          1. Clara Louise Sherman (15), born 1890/1 in Popular Ridge NY, and died 1894 of infantile sickness.
11. John Sherman (14), born about 1860 in Moonshine NY. 1860 John age 1 lived with his parents (Census).
12. Fredrick Sherman (14), born 9 May 1861 in Moonshine NY. Married December 1885 to Fanny Chase born in 1863, a native of Springport Twp. A farmer after marriage he purchases a 5 acre vineyard in Levanna NY, Cayuga County. Fredrick died of a heart attack in 1917, buried in Chestnut Hill Cemetery in Union Springs NY.
