1904. On 28 Oct Mahlon Butler age 21 of Fostoria and Maud Sherman age 18 of Watertown were married at Mayville by Thor M Mott clergyman, his father was Jed Butler and mother was Sophia Beckman, witnesses were Ethel V Mott and Mrs T M Mott both of Mayville
1907. Dr Seeley was called to Pontiac this morning to see Mrs Butler
1909. On 15 Jan the 40 acres willed to Maud was deeded to her at age 21 by Henry and Melitta Summers, Charles and Amelia Summers, Horace and Delia Summers and Hannah Summers for $1.00 and other considerations. Apparently his heirs signed off on a quit claim deed document because his estate was not settled until 1918
1910. Census of Watertown Twp indicated: Malard (Mahlon) Butler age 27 farmer, Maud H Butler age 22, wife, Bernice M Butler age 3, owned farm with mortgage, they have been married 5 years and both could read, write, and speak English
1912. Mrs Mahlon Butler having completed a course in dressmaking, will receive sewing at her home 3.5 miles North of Fostoria. Satisfactory work. Reasonable prices. Chamber phone 18H
1914. Mahlon built the barn just West of the house, the old barn near the road was torn down
1916. In Oct Mahlon bought the North adjoining acres from William R Sherman's Estate for $3,250
Note: A J Butler was told by his father Mahlon Butler not to disturb a mound in this 40 acre tract. The mound was thought to be an Indian burial, it was elongated and about the size of a grave, it was located in the corner of the field at the North end of the woods which was in the South East corner of the tract. 1918. Maud was given 40 acres with buildings in Rich Twp, Lapeer County through the will and final settlement of her grandfather David Summer's estate. The interesting thing is that he wrote his will about 2 months before she was born, she was referred to as the second grandchild by my daughter Hannah Sherman
1920. Census of Watertown Twp indicated: Mahlon age 39, farmer, Maud age 32, wife, children Bernice M, Ethlyn L, and A J, farmhand Harold L Morgan age 22 born 1898 in MI
1920. While digging holes for fence posts for a fence on the North property line between the barn and the road, Mahlon and son A J hit a wooden box, they left it alone by Mahlon's instructions, and relocated the post to avoid the box
1935. Mahlon Butler owned 80 acres in Watertown Twp, a 1 story 6 room wood frame, wood siding house built in 1868, remodeled 1933, a 54' x 36' x 12' barn was built 1915, 40' silo of concrete staves
1942. Maude died at her daughter Bernice's house in Clio MI, after an eight month stay. She had been treated for 2 years by Dr Johnson of Mayville for cancer, which was the cause of death, buried in old Watertown Cemetery
1943. On 10 Jul Mahlon age 59 married Verne Hibbs age 58 a practical nurse of Fostoria by Rev H J Green Ordained Minister at Flint, her third marriage, her parents were Thomas Shimmons and Jermye Shimmons of Flint, they were divorced within a year
1944. Mahlon transferred ownership of his farm to his son A J for $1.00
1944. Mahlon age 60 married widow Gertrude R Rice (Cole) (Morrell) age 60, both of Mayville, she was born in WI, witnesses were Thos J Corwin and Emma Jane Sherman
Note: Gertrude was married first to Leland Cole, Sanford Cole's brother who was married to her sister Nora Rice, Leland and Sanford moved to Northfield MN and bought farm s. Leland died and was buried there, Sanford returned to Watertown Twp about 1917. 1952. On 9 Apr Gertrude prepared her will. She willed nothing to Mahlon, per agreement there personal property would go to heirs of their previous marriage
1963. Gertrude Butler died buried in old Watertown Cemetery
1963. Gertrude's estate was administered by two nieces who were her heirs, Dorothy Hudson and Marguerite Greene, estate totaled $3,401.35, after deductions it left $2,351.26 for the heirs
1964/71. Mahlon lived with his son A J and wife in Manton MI
1965. Mahlon owned a 80 acre farm in Watertown Twp
1971. Mahlon died and is buried in old Watertown Cemetery
Three children 1. Bernice M Butler (17) was born about 1907, extremely good attendance in school, married Perry E "Dixie" Wood who was born 12 Mar 1895 in MO, Perry died 13 Jan 1968, services were at Clio MI, he is buried in old Watertown Cemetery, she died while visiting her adopted son Warren in Arkansas and is buried there 1. Walter E Wood (18) born 14 Aug 1926, died at 10 days 24 Aug buried in old Watertown Cemetery 2. Warren Wood (18) adopted 2. Ethelyn Lucille Butler (17) born 1 Sep 1910, married Clinton Long, she was teacher in the Eagle and Montgomery Schools in Lapeer MI, she died 18 Sep 1987 at Lapeer General Hospital, buried in Watertown Cemetery 1. Kenneth Charles Long (18) 2. Donald Keith Long (18) 3. A J Butler (17) A J was his name not just initials, married Gladys Brown who was a relation to Melissa Sherman's (15) Husband 1. Charles Mahlon Butler (18) married Linda ____, 3 children 1 boy and 2 girls 2. Mona Marie Butler (18) married Arlyn Broch who died, married Awarne Arlt 3. Alonzo Jay Butler (18) married Judy ___, had one son 4. Everett Allen Butler (18) married Dianne ___, had one son
